Central Air Conditioning Systems

There are two basic parts of a air conditioning system - the condensing unit and the indoor coil. The refrigerant gas is compressed and cooled inside the condensing unit. The refrigerant is then pumped through refrigerant lines to the indoor coil. Room air is circulated through the cold indoor coil and then pushed back inside your home as cooled air.

Cooling efficiency is measured in SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). Ratings works like gas mileage on your car. The higher the SEER or HSPF number, the higher the efficiency and the greater the energy savings.

For instance, if your old unit is 10 to 15 years old, the efficiency rating could be a wasteful 6 SEER. Now, air conditioning systems can rate between 13 - 20 SEER. This means more savings over the long term in your pocket
